Best Practice for Damp Mopping
Check your finish: Most modern floors are finished and can handle damp mopping but unfinished floors absorb water and should not be wet mopped at all ( Does water bead up on your floors?).
Dust first: Always sweep, swiffer or dry mop thoroughly to remove loose dirt before damp mopping.
Microfiber is best: A microfiber mop or cloth is ideal for trapping dirt and controlling moisture
Wring it out: The mop should feel almost dry to the touch; It should not leave puddles.
Mop with the grain: Move the mop in the direction of the wood planks to avoid streaks.
Use the appropriate cleaner: Use a pH-neutral cleaner made for hardwood floors, or plain water, as some finishes require water only.
Work in sections: Mop small areas at a time and dry immediately to prevent moisture from sitting,
Avoid steam: Steam mops are generally not recomended as the hot steam can force moisture into the wood and void warranties.
